SVR is a multi-residential project located within the character neighbourhood of Auckland suburb Grafton. While the client brief called for three identical townhouses, the concept underpinning our design approach explored how the entire site could be thought about rather than the three lots individually - where sharing of visual boundaries provides depth beyond the confines of each house lot, leading to chance encounters, in turn affirming a sense of community and belonging.
The layering of space, continuous both within and between the houses, offers gentle interactions - limiting abruptness of space and confines.
Drawing from the vernacular architecture of the neighbourhood, the buildings reinterpret rather than replicate. The goal to embody a sense of the familiar, through the handling of proportion, spatial relationships, detailing and finishing of building elements etc.
