Located in the historic suburb of Devonport, this site is uniquely positioned on a narrow stretch of land between two bays. The clients had lived in the original villa while their children were young, but with the children maturing, were interested in establishing a home that could develop and evolve with them through adulthood. The design of this extensive alteration and addition clarifies the architectural language of the villa while taking cues from the local relaxed beach lifestyle - a gentle effortlessness runs through the functional and aesthetic layers. Drawing from the existing proportions and spatial relationships of the house, rationalisation and weaving of the old with the new feels subtle and understated.
