A need for long-stay lodging for women undergoing cancer treatment in Tanzania called for proposals for a site located in the Mwanza region, the nation’s second largest city.
An efficient, modular approach utilising local materials and building techniques underpins this architectural proposal. High thermal mass regulates temperature while passive ventilation is maximised through the building’s orientation to Lake Victoria. A sweeping entry wall gently contains two accommodation wings with common services placed in the centre.
