Gallery Li Yugang is the adaptive reuse of an industrial building in Beijing, China. Serving as a cultural hub for Peking opera, the brief requirements called for range of functions including a museum, listening space, cafe and private function rooms.
The design proposal looks to weave the past and present of opera into a highly considered experiential sequence of spaces, beginning on the ground floor and leading through to the upper level. Such an experience is heightened through dramatic use of natural and artificial lighting together with strong geometries and forms.
